The PlotJoys Story Studio
Anything you love,a storybook to keep.

It’s your idea — you’re the director.
A virtual studio of story specialists writes and illustrates it from scratch, starring the people you love. No writing or art skills needed.
From a photo to a book star.
Kids, parents, grandparents — anyone you love can be in the book.
Upload one photo. No account needed to look.
…or your favorite stuffies and pets.
Four paws, floppy ears, button eyes — the whole crew comes along.
A photo of the pet, or the stuffy that never leaves their side.
What’s your story to tell?
No two families have ever asked for the same story. Dogs, cats and well-loved stuffies count too.
The notes below are examples we made up.
One sentence is enough — the studio takes it from there.
Now write yours.
Anyone you love, any story — one sentence away.
Unlimited revisions, or your money back.
And then it arrives.
Your book is ready to read in 1 business day. Choose the hardcover, and it prints and ships after you approve it.

One studio.Infinite stories.
Every book below was written and illustrated from one parent’s sentence.

A note from the founder
Hi, I’m Dao
I started PlotJoys after I went looking for a picture book about the exact thing my own kid was going through, and couldn’t find it. So I made her one. Then I left my job and built this.
You’re about to trust me with a photo of your child, so —
- Your photos make your book and nothing else.
- Every page is written and drawn for your heroes — never a template.
- If it isn’t right, I fix it — or you get your money back.

What Parents Are Saying
Questions, answered.
PlotJoys makes personalized children’s books you direct — for a child, or for the whole family: type one sentence, add a photo of each hero, and a virtual studio of story specialists writes and illustrates an original keepsake storybook. Up to four heroes in one book — kids, parents, grandparents, and the dog.
A few photos and a story idea, and my virtual story studio does the rest. I built it to mimic a real one: concept, casting, wardrobe, props, world-building, writers, illustrators, even a child-development reviewer. The whole studio works on your kid's one book. And if anything is off, you get free edits, or your money back. — Dao, founder
Specialization, and a lot of tuning. Every book passes through studio roles with one job each — concept, casting, wardrobe, world-building, writing, art direction, illustration, and a child-development check that the themes and vocabulary fit the age — instead of one program doing everything. One role's only job is continuity: it holds your characters, their clothes, their props and their world steady, so the same child looks back from page 12 as from page 1. Underneath that, each role runs on whichever model is genuinely best at that particular job rather than one model doing all of it, and the roles making judgement calls run at the top tier with extended reasoning. The instructions behind each role have been rewritten thousands of times against real books. The studio is built and tuned by our founder — a math PhD who led AI teams for a decade — and grounded in child-development research. Before a book prints, we look at every page. If something's wrong we fix it — before it prints, not after you've opened it. That's a step we added for ourselves; nobody would know if we skipped it. And you can change anything, at any point — unlimited revisions until it's the book you wanted. The honest measure: 47% of families who buy one book come back for another.
One founder: Dao — a mom first, and a math PhD who led AI teams for a decade. She made the first book for her own daughter, then for friends' kids, and PlotJoys grew from there — the same studio, now making books for families she's never met. She built it all herself, grounded it in child-development research, and teaches a weekly story program at Plano Day School. And she keeps improving the studio with what families tell her.
Since summer 2025. Before then, a personalized book meant one of two things: a template with a name swapped in, or hiring a writer and an illustrator — something only a few families could afford. Now you send a few photos and a story idea, and a studio turns the photos into heroes and builds a whole book around your idea. I made the first one for my own daughter. It's new — which is why nobody, including us, has ten years of reviews for it. What I can show you instead: every book in Discover is a real one we made; families come back for a second (47% so far); and a pre-K class at Plano Day School gets a new one every Tuesday. — Dao, founder
Yes. Dogs, cats and well-loved stuffies can star — on their own, or right alongside the rest of the family — send their photo with the rest of your cast and our story specialists take it from there. A template can swap in a name; it can't put your actual dog on the page.
One use: making your stories. Your photos become your characters and your illustrations — nothing else. And our founder holds every technology and third-party vendor inside the studio to the same rule: story-making only.
Most personalized books drop your child's name into a fixed story — every child gets the same plot. At PlotJoys nothing exists until you share your idea: the plot, the words, and every illustration are created from scratch for your child. Anyone they love can be in the book too — a grandparent drawn in beside them, even their favorite stuffie on the page. You direct all of it. The fastest way to feel the difference is to flip through finished books on our Discover page.
Your digital book is ready within 1 business day. The hardcover takes 2-3 weeks, and here's why: we hold no inventory. There's no stack of books waiting for a name. Yours is printed after you approve it — about a week to make — and then 1-2 weeks to reach you.
Up to four heroes in one book. Usually a child, but plenty of our books star a grown-up — a mum on her birthday, a dad's first year of being a dad. Pets and well-loved stuffies count too. Need more than four? Email me at pj@plotjoys.com and we'll work it out.
PlotJoys is for anyone with someone they love and a story worth keeping — parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, godparents. We write for the age of whoever the book is for, tuning the words and themes to them: first-birthday books, toddler favorites, early readers, and up. Kids can even help direct their own story, some adults order one about themselves, and plenty of books star a dog or a well-loved stuffie.
Yes — you can order a premium hardcover: about the size of a sheet of printer paper turned sideways (8×11 inches), bigger than a standard picture book, made for gifting or keeping. Nothing is printed until you've approved it: about a week to make, then 1-2 weeks to ship. It's included with our Concierge package, or available as an upgrade after your digital storybook.
A digital book is $19. The premium hardcover keepsake is $59 and includes the digital copy. Concierge — a 1:1 story specialist, unlimited edits and characters, music and narration — is $199. Every option comes with unlimited revisions, or your money back.
No — and that's the whole difference. There's no finished book on a shelf waiting for a name to be dropped in: nothing exists until you tell us your idea. What you can see first, free, is your star drawn as their character. The story itself is written for your family after you order — and then you change anything you like, with unlimited revisions or your money back.
Change it. A line, an illustration, the ending — unlimited revisions until you love it. If it's still not right, your money back.
The best personalized storybooks go beyond inserting a name. Look for three things: the child illustrated as the hero and recognizably them, a story tailored to their interests and personality, and quality illustrations and narrative. With PlotJoys, the gift-giver directs the story — 'she loves dinosaurs and is learning to share' becomes a unique adventure starring their child.
