Gingerbread Dreams
What the parent wrote
“I want to gift Linda a sweet story for Thanksgiving. I'm her neighbor but she is really treating us like a family and I'm very grateful. Linda has this tradition that the day after thanksgiving she will build gingerbread house at her house w/ her grandkids - Sophie, Mila and Nathan. I think a story about this will be very sweet.”
Read the Story
The day after Thanksgiving, three excited voices filled Grandma's kitchen.
"Time for our gingerbread house!" Grandma announced.
"Mix, bake, decorate!" they chanted, stirring the golden dough.
Everly rolled walls. Lilyana cut windows. Nelson made the smallest gingerbread people.
While gingerbread baked, sweet cinnamon smells danced through the air.
"Time to build!" Grandma Karen sang out cheerfully.
Four pairs of hands worked together, sticking walls with sweet, white icing.
The walls stood tall! Now came the best part — decorating!
Everly piped icing swirls. Lilyana placed each gumdrop perfectly. Nelson... ate some!
"Mix, bake, decorate!" Nelson giggled, adding one more candy.
"Look what we made together!" Everly exclaimed.
Grandma Karen hugged them close. "The sweetest tradition ever."
They shared gingerbread cookies and milk, planning next year's house.
"Same time next year?" "Yes!" three voices cheered.
Grandma's heart was as full as her house.
