Welcome to PlotJoys!

These Terms of Service explain how PlotJoys works and what we expect from each other. We've written this in plain language because we believe transparency builds trust—especially when it comes to your family.

By using PlotJoys, you confirm you're 13 or older. If creating profiles for children, you confirm you're their parent, legal guardian, or an adult with parental permission to provide their information (such as a grandparent, relative, or family friend creating a gift).

What PlotJoys Does

PlotJoys creates personalized creative content where you or your loved ones become the main characters. You provide profile information and creative requests, and we craft unique stories, illustrations, and other personalized experiences. Content is available digitally and can be ordered in physical formats like printed books.

Your Responsibilities

To keep PlotJoys safe and enjoyable for everyone, you agree to:

  • Use appropriate content - All photos, requests, and information must be family-friendly and lawful. You must have rights to any content you upload.
  • Use for personal purposes - Not for commercial use or resale
  • Keep your account secure - Don't share login credentials
  • Respect others' rights - Don't create content that violates others' privacy, rights, or dignity

We review content and reserve the right to refuse service, remove content, or terminate accounts that violate these terms. Violations may result in loss of account access without refund.

Parental Authorization (COPPA Compliance)

You can create profiles for anyone - children, adults, yourself, or loved ones. If you're creating profiles for children under 13, the following additional requirements apply:

You confirm that you are either the parent/legal guardian or an adult with parental permission to provide the child's information (such as a grandparent, relative, or family friend). By creating a child profile, you authorize PlotJoys to collect and use the information as described in our Privacy Policy.

We comply with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). Parents and legal guardians have the right to:

  • Review the information we've collected about their child
  • Request deletion of their child's profile and all associated data at any time
  • Refuse further collection or use of their child's information

Credits and Payments

PlotJoys uses a credit system called "PlotJoys Credits" (PJ Credits):

  • Purchase credits with real money through our secure payment processor
  • Credits don't expire as long as your account is active
  • No refunds on credits once purchased, but you can always use them for stories or character creation
  • Printed books are final sale once production begins (usually within 24 hours)

Who Owns What

Your Content:

You retain ownership of all content you provide (photos, ideas, requests, profile information). By using PlotJoys, you grant us permission to use your content to create personalized experiences for you.

Created Content:

Content we create for you (stories, illustrations, audio, and other personalized experiences) is provided for your personal, non-commercial use. You can print, share with family, and enjoy them however you like for personal purposes. We may display examples in our gallery or marketing materials, and reserve the right to use the content to improve our services.

Our Platform:

PlotJoys owns all rights to our platform, technology, systems, brand, and website.

Service Availability

We work hard to keep PlotJoys running smoothly, but we can't guarantee 100% uptime. We may need to temporarily suspend service for maintenance, updates, or unforeseen issues. We'll do our best to notify you in advance of planned maintenance.

Ending Your Account

You can delete your account and all associated data at any time by contacting us at pj@plotjoys.com.

We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms or engage in inappropriate use of the service.

Disclaimers (The Legal Stuff)

PlotJoys is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. While we strive to create magical stories, we can't guarantee that every story will be perfect or that the service will always work exactly as expected. We're not liable for any indirect damages arising from use of our service. Our total liability is limited to the amount you've paid us in the past 12 months.

Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. We'll notify you of significant changes by email or through the app. Continued use of PlotJoys after changes means you accept the new terms.
